Christmas Angels

I am a self taught crocheter, specialising in granny squares. My first project was a blanket for my cat, which she never really bothered with because well, she's a cat, but I was proud of my creation. My second project was for my youngest cousin. He chose his favourite colours of yarn and I made him a blanket for his birthday. Several huge granny square blankets later, I was bored and promptly gave up.

Fast forward to a few years later, I decided I would like to pick it back up again, but I knew the reason I got bored of it before was because I was doing the same thing over and over again. So I started looking at patterns on the internet and found one that I liked. It's a little angel christmas tree decoration which I thought would make a perfect gift to my grandparents for christmas. My first attempt did not go as well as I had hoped...

I knew by this point that the type of yard I had used wasn't the right type of yarn and so I decided to go to the Range the next day after my university lecture and stock up on a sturdier yarn that wasn't so fluffy and would hold the shape better. I went for Lily's Sugar 'n Cream yarn in the colours Jute, Ecru and Red. This yarn has honestly made all of the difference in my angels. I can see my stitches clearer with this yarn and  it holds the shape of my crochet well. This time round I made sure that I followed the pattern to the letter and I used a bobby pin to mark my stitches so that I could count them and make sure I was on the right track.

I am over the moon with my second attempt at the angels and I'm pleased that I persisted and it payed off. I'm off to make some more for other family member's christmas presents! I'll end this post with some pictures of the finished piece.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog! Let me know what projects you're currently working on!
